We are now 5 days across the Atlantic, hoping to enter the Mediterranean on Sunday night. 4 new cadets joined on Friday 19th, so far the new Engine Cadets have only been cleaning! On Monday there was a leak from a gasket on the fuel oil supply to the main engine which ended up covering most of the purifier room's floor.
On Tuesday while we were transferring from the soot collecting tank to an overboard sewage pipe there was a leak that ended up covering most of the deck and walls. We then spent two days mopping and on our hands and knees wiping the oil and soot off the floor. On Wednesday when we had finished everything we then tested the pump that was connected to this overboard pipe. A flange near the floor then burst and so we had another cleaning job on our hands that would take up most of Thursday. 4 straight days of cleaning to welcome the new cadets onto the boat!
This is also the start of my last Asia passage. Once we are finished our ports I will then have the passage back to Newark and then I can catch my flight home. 2 months have flown by and now I am counting down the days until I can leave and go home. If we stick to our schedule we should be back into the Suez Canal on the 9th and then its only back across the Med and the Atlantic which should be roughly 12 days.
56 days to go!!
